Thankfully, we also have a western-style toilet so we don't have to do this often.
Janine > Cat shows us how to do laundry Mauritanian-style. This takes a lot of scrubbing and time so we have since hired a local woman to do most of our laundry. She does a much better job and we can support the local economy.

Janine > My mosquito tent and foam mattress to protect me from malaria and yellow fever. It is too hot to sleep inside so we sleep in our yard under the amazing stars.

Janine > The kitchen. We have since hung up pots and pans. Notice the camping stove and propane tank. Makes cooking a bit difficult, but not impossible. No oven or refridgerator though.
Janine > Me weeding out what has since become our garden. We have invested a lot of time and energy in planting vegetables--none of which came up.
Janine > Our water filters to prevent dysentary, chronic diarrhea, and guinea worm
